Surrealist Cabaret

Looking to Keep Portland Weird? Meet the Surrealist Cabaret, an ongoing variety show with live performances from a rotating group of local artists. Join us for an immersive dive into an otherworldly dream reality featuring DIY performance art, experimental music, video work, handmade merchandise, and more.

Created in fall of 2024, the cabaret originated out of a desire to establish an accessible performance art hub in Portland. With an emphasis on queer and feminine-identifying artists, this show is a place for wild experimentation and open ended creation. Selected artists are free to develop work in any medium without the limits of a traditional theater structure and what emerges is an artistic smorgasbord unlike anything you’ve seen before.

The open-minded environment and eclectic nature of the show create an experience that is intriguing, engaging, and enlivening to behold. Audience feedback has been overwhelmingly favorable and a committed fanbase has helped us continue to sell out venues and theaters across Portland– most recently at the 200-seat capacity Clinton Street Theater!

As we work to grow this project, we aim to keep costs for audiences and participating artists low. All proceeds are equitably split between performers and our talented crew.

The Surrealist Cabaret has fostered an incredible community of artists and art enthusiasts, and we couldn’t be more excited to continue bringing our specific brand of absurdism to Portland!
